Burlap Wreaths

A few months back I started looking on Pinterest at different wreaths because I wanted to make one for Fall.  A friend had a wreath on her door made with burlap and I just thought it was so fitting for Fall.  So the more I looked on Pinterest I found a wreath I knew I wanted to make.  At first I thought it might be tedious, but in the end it was really easy.  I was very pleased with my Fall wreath, and liked it so much I knew I would be making another one with the lighter color burlap for Christmas.  At first I wasn't sure what I was going to put together for decor on the wreath, but once I got in Hobby Lobby I was able to pull together what I thought would go well.  If your interested in how to make these visit Becoming Martha.  I like how her burlap looks more loose, and it looks like she used a smaller wreath which is really cute also.

Our Thanksgiving

This year we did not travel home for Thanksgiving which is always kinda sad.  Our families live in Jasper, TX, about 7 hours from us.  However, it always seems to take us 8 to 10 hours to get there when we go back home, lol!  So once we decided to stay at our place we tossed the idea of cooking a big Thanksgiving dinner back and forth, and ended up going for it.  Everything turned out pretty good, or as my husband said, "it was AWESOME."  I managed to get a few pictures of some of the things I made, but it was just all too busy to get all the pictures needed. I will be posting the recipes I used on Isom Cookings & Sweet Spots.  It was nice to have Chris' parents come up to be with us on Thanksgiving, and we tried to convince our neighbors to join us.  There is always more than enough food at this time of year and there is just something special about getting together with people no matter who they are!

My Own Food Blog

For a few days I've been working on creating a food blog.  I had planned to post recipes here, but really the more I thought about it I wanted something with more detail.  I really enjoy looking at food blogs so why not have my own.  It may not be as fancy as some, but it's still worth having one.  It's just a better place for me to keep up with things I cook on a whim.  I have really gotten into cooking recipes from blogs so I'm excited about having even my own recipes at hand on the computer.  Eventually I plan to get an iPad and it will be much nicer to cook from.  The laptop just takes up too much of my counter space, and I don't have much as it is!  Anyway, take a look at Isom Cookings & Sweet Spots.

A True Friend

Today my mind keeps thinking, "they have actually left".  The Bowen family has actually moved now.  I am sad when I think of it, but not down.  When Michelle had first informed me of Billy getting a job and making San Antonio a final destination for them to live it hurt so much.  My heart was heavy for a few days, until one morning as I was fixing my breakfast and began to cry, I simply whispered, "God if this is your will for them please give me a peace about it", and that is exactly what He did.  From that moment on I have been dealing with my friend leaving very well.  We both moved to Wichita Falls about 6 years ago within a 6 month period, and became really good friends about 5 years ago along with our girls, Abigail & Breann.

We have shared so much over the last few years.  Just as our speaker stated at our Life Tabernacle ladies tea, "there is just something special when your moms are friends", this is so true!  Michelle and I have shared so much, and she has truly been there for me at all times.  Michelle truly is one of the sweetest ladies I know.  She is so kind and always giving in some way.  She's the friend I'd sit and talk about anything with.  We shared good deals, good products, shopping trips, blessings and trials, better ways to be good mothers and good wives, ways we should get closer to God, and so much more.  Michelle is one when we talked she stated the good in others no matter what.  Her sweet spirit has truly helped me change some things about myself over the years, and I will be ever grateful for that.

We have been happy for each other in the good times and blessings from God.  Even at this time I am happy for my friend.  I'm excited for her and the house they bought and how God worked everything out for them.  I can't wait to here of how God uses them in their family and new church in San Antonio.  I know they are going to be such a blessing to people there, and that is just a wonderful thing!  Breann and I are both looking forward to girl trips in the years to come, and what special bonding moments that will be for me and my daughter as well.  Abigail and Breann will most likely spend a week here or there every summer, just as Austin and Haiden have done the past 6 years we have lived here.  So no matter the situation now I know there are good times ahead of us!

Last week we went out to eat taking Abigail and Breann, and they just loved it!  I got the girls matching purses.

Then Wednesday night we got some last time pictures of them in matching outfit they have.

....they didn't match but had to get there pic too!

Looking forward to our trip to San Antonio in July!  We plan to go when Chris & Haiden are on the Colorado trip.

A Little Updating

Back in January I made up my mind I was updating my bathroom.  Boy was that a job!  It took me two weeks to finish the main things, then along the way finishing touches were completed.  The bathroom originally had wallpaper, which I didn't think was horrible, but it was not applied well at all and it was coming off in several places.  Along with that the faucets were looking horrible!  Here is a pick of the old look right after we moved in 6 years ago.

So wallpaper came down, and textured was applied.  In the end I was not very pleased with my texture job, as the style changed as I kept going, lol!  Once I got things on the wall it's not too noticeable and still looks better than the wallpaper.

After looking at various bathroom color combinations I decided I wanted to go with a burnt orange color, bronze for faucets, and ivory for bath decor.  It seemed so bold and different at first, but I really like it!

Something else I found I could do is change my tile grout color.  This was needed so badly!  It was stained, dark, and dirty looking along with being gray. This didn't match what I was doing, and I never thought it matched the color scheme before either.  It was really neat to use the Sherman Williams app to find a color paint to match the tile, and pull out the tan color that is in our tile.  I painted the grout and sealed it, and it worked great!

This Belize Memory Foam bath rug is AWESOME!!!

I was able to use my old bath caddy by spray painting it with oil rubbed bronze.  It has some flaws, but it still worked and saved some money!
Even painted the soap cover

After doing this bathroom I am really dreading getting the other one done.  It was more work and money than I had suspected.  I think I've decided to freshen up Breann's room for my next project since it will be simple!

A Scentsy Plug was a perfect finish to the bathroom

Another Year to Make Memories

A new year is always wonderful and so many thoughts come with the start of a new year. My thoughts usually do a little reflecting but then they drift to of a couple special days in the beginning of January. My husbands birthday is January 7th, and this year he turned 40. I really wanted to have a big party for him, but I couldn't make it work in our budget. So we celebrated as family and had a special day with him. Turning 40 is always fun to make a big deal about, but it was really a bigger deal that we were celebrating another birthday with him. It has been a year since he had kidney cancer removed from his body and cat scans continue to show all is well!

We had dinner at Pasquals and it was really nice. Since we arrived right at 5 when they opened we were seated in the back room all by ourselves. Our kids had never been in a restaurant so quiet, so that was interesting, but it made for a great teaching opportunity. Breann stated later that night, "that was a really nice and quiet restaurant, I liked it". I can see her getting taken there a few times in her future by her daddy and it being special time for them.

The kids and I made sure to decorate a little for his birthday....

... and of course there had to be 40 candles

My husband is a special person, and he shows us love unconditionally in our home. I always think of him as the better half that I continuously can learn from. He strives to keep a positive attitude no matter what. His willing heart is always open to doing for others. He is committed to serving God and that is a strength in our home like nothing else could be. I am blessed to have such a man in my life to be my husband, I love him!

Then we go to January 9th being Colten's birthday. He turned 5 on this one, and sometimes I can't believe it. I think it really hits home with me because 8 months from now he will be starting school. I will miss not having anyone at home with me during the day for sure! On Monday we let Colten pick the dinner, and he wanted chicken tenders and a roll. During the day Colten and I made chocolate cupcakes with fudge pudding filling and Toy Story deco. I don't know how many times he used the phrase, "well today is my birthday, so....", to have everyone answer to him and the things he wanted to do. It was funny!

FAMILY IS IMPORTANT, HAVE FUN & ENJOY LIFE!!!
